A few weeks ago marked the beginning of the 2018-19 campaign for the PCHS basketball team, as practice officially began. The year is met with high expectations, and has been highly anticipated by players and fans alike. Returning are all five starters, as well as most bench players, from a team that reached the Regional Final just a year ago.
Practice so far has been very high intensity as the Crusaders prepare with a sense of urgency for their upcoming season opener. Also, the team has participated in two preseason scrimmages in order to gauge their potential against other opponents.
On November 17, PCHS took on the Belpre Eagles in their first preseason scrimmage. Starting for the Crusaders were Cade Ullman, Patrick Copen, Jeb Boice, Jalen Brunny, and Peyton Amrine. The performance on the defensive side was dominating, however the team felt there was still work to do on the offensive side of the ball. Ty Sturm (shoulder) sat out with an injury.
Last week, the Parkersburg Big Reds faced off against the Crusaders in a tightly contested exhibition. PCHS believes they showed great improvement on both sides of the basketball, and according Sturm the team showed great poise.
PCHS will continue preseason work throughout the next few days before taking on the Ritchie County Rebels on December 4th in the home opener.
