The 2019 PCHS Baseball campaign looks to be one of the most promising in years as the Crusaders return 8 of the 9 starters from last year’s season. Additions to the roster have been made in Cade Ullman and Hunter Tate who will be joined by Ty Sturm and Bryce Moore as the other seniors on the team. Returning in the junior class are standout pitcher Patrick Copen, Jeb Boice, Joel Stophel, Stephen Garvin, Peyton Amrine, and Clay Dexter. The lone sophomore is Drew Gill in his second year with the program.
The Crusaders lineup is anticipated to change day-to-day, however it will typically be a variation of P Patrick Copen, C Jeb Boice, 1B Joel Stophel, 2B Bryce Moore, 3B Ty Sturm, SS Cade Ullman, LF Stephen Garvin, CF Peyton Amrine, and RF Drew Gill. All players on the team will serve in relief pitching duties, which serves the small, well-rounded roster well.
PCHS looks to return to prominence by breaking a streak of three straight sub-.500 seasons. The Crusaders have began 2-2 on the year with a doubleheader sweep last Saturday of Calhoun County, however two tough losses to St. Mary’s and Charleston Catholic have halted the early momentum. PCHS looks to get back in the win column with matchups against Wirt County tonight and a doubleheader against Roane County on Saturday. Let’s Go Blue!
