Crusaders News · PCHS Baseball Secures Huge Victory

After dropping five straight games, PCHS needed a spark to kickstart a strong finish to end the season, and they found that against Williamstown on Friday night. The Crusaders pulled off a 2-1 victory over the highly ranked Yellowjackets, in what was an impressive pitchers’ duel between PCHS starter Patrick Copen and Williamstown’s Trip Barkley.

The score remained 0-0 well into the game, until PCHS struck first in the Bottom of the 4th on a fielder’s choice play. The 1-0 lead would remain until the Top of the 7th, when an error resulted in a score for the Yellowjackets. A double play on a caught line drive ended the scoring threat for Williamstown, however they had tied the game 1-1 heading into the last half inning. A leadoff walk by Bryce Moore would eventually be the winning run for the Crusaders, as a walk-off single to right field by Clay Dexter was the exclamation point on the upset victory. The win was attributed to Patrick Copen who put together 13 Ks (nine-straight at one point), 3 BBs, and only gave up 4 hits.

PCHS will look to clean sweep the Yellowjackets on Tuesday at 4:30 PM in Williamstown. They will round out the week with a home game against the St. Mary’s Blue Devils at 5:00 PM Wednesday night. Let’s Go Blue!
